Differences Between Freestyle, Street, and Vert Skating

Hey guys,

Before I start, I wanted to let you guys know something I found quite humorous, I lost a follower.

My current count is at 99, so who wants to be my new 100th?

So what are freestyle, street, and vert? Here's a quick explanation for these 3 terms:

Freestyle- doing crazy (not just normal tricks) ground fliptricks and unimaginably creative stuff, look up "Rodney Mullen", he's a freestyler

Street- the biggest part of montages, rails, stairs, ledges, hubbas, etc.

Vert- TONY HAWK. Ramps, flying through the air, all that fun stuff.

I have a local skatepark, which is mainly vert, but has some rails and a lot of open, smooth space to practice tricks.

I consider myself to be a more street-based skateboarder, for my skateboarding followers, what are you based on, freestyle, street, or vert?

For those who don't skate, what WOULD you be?

  1. Hmm, I'd probably be street, I'm not that extreme to fly through the air and do crazy tricks :P

  6. I've always loved street. Jason Lee in his hay day did some great street videos. Should be on youtube.

  8. I was always a mixture of freestyle and street. I've done a 6ft primo slide on a waxed up manual pad. This was 5 years ago mind...

  9. To me, Street is the only thing to skate. seriously, all you need is a street, a deck, and some balls. Don't need a park, ramps, and to travel. walk outside, you've got something to skate. For me it's also wayy more fun.

  13. Well, NYC has me getting back into the swing of things, going to buy a PlanB in a few days. There is this sick free park on the other side of Brooklyn Bridge. I am probably going to get back into the swing of things, and practice all my ground shit again, and THEN kill those ledges and rails like I used to. I am getting older though, so it's a little bit of a struggle.

    P.S. I'm only 23.

  18. I enjoy Freestyle the most, but Street is pretty great too. Vert just seems too cookie cutter.
