More French Stuff

On my trip to France, I stayed 3 nights in Paris, 3 in Bayeux, then 2 more in Paris. I visited the Eiffel Tower and almost any other tourist site you could imagine!

The culture is very relaxed and different compared to the US. The French do not have as many working hours as us Americans, this leads to many adults lounging around in cafes, taking in the scenery.

One negative about the culture is the pickpockets, they are at every major tourist site, so beware.

Because Bayeux is in Normany, I visited many D-Day sites, how historic.

I had a great trip, the worst part was the boring flight back!

Did Anyone Know It Was "Go Skateboarding Day?"

I was going to talk more about my France trip (soon!) but then I realized, "Wait, IT'S DAMN GO SKATEBOARDING DAY TODAY". June 21st, the day of skating.

Me and my bros (4 of us) skated at our local park and got some clips, we then skated over to a church and skated that.

A few hours later, we took the bus to some gaps that our filmer (dumbass) said were skateable, they were fenced shut! RAGE.

We got picked up by my mom and headed home. It was a great day, but I'm sunburned from this 10 hour long day in the 95 degree Florida sun!

Differences Between Freestyle, Street, and Vert Skating

Hey guys,

Before I start, I wanted to let you guys know something I found quite humorous, I lost a follower.

My current count is at 99, so who wants to be my new 100th?

So what are freestyle, street, and vert? Here's a quick explanation for these 3 terms:

Freestyle- doing crazy (not just normal tricks) ground fliptricks and unimaginably creative stuff, look up "Rodney Mullen", he's a freestyler

Street- the biggest part of montages, rails, stairs, ledges, hubbas, etc.

Vert- TONY HAWK. Ramps, flying through the air, all that fun stuff.

I have a local skatepark, which is mainly vert, but has some rails and a lot of open, smooth space to practice tricks.

I consider myself to be a more street-based skateboarder, for my skateboarding followers, what are you based on, freestyle, street, or vert?

For those who don't skate, what WOULD you be?

I'm Back

Hey, I haven't posted in a little less than a week.

Sorry for the break, I've been a tad busy with other things.

I'm hoping to make a montage soon, with some vert (ramps), street, rails, stairs etc.

My filmer is the biggest nuisance as of right now because he is verryyy lazy.

I have no idea what to do from here, more tutorials (text/video)?

Teaching Others How to Skateboard

This Friday, the 13th, I helped my friend choose a complete at a store in a mall.

He chose an Almost (Almost is a skateboard brand) complete for about 110 bucks. When I got back to his house, he started skating and tried to do a few basic tricks.

Being a good friend, I taught him how to ride, ollie, shoveit, and the basic mechanics of the skateboard.

We skated at some basketball courts near his house for a few hours, then went home and chilled at the Xbox. It was a fun time!

Tre Flips

Tre Flips. Also known as 360 flips. They are the god of skateboarding. Hopefully, I'll be able to take on this god tonight. I assume it will take me a month or two to learn these. They combine a kickflip and a 360 shoveit.

Every great skater can tre flip, or should be able to.

I'll put my progress level at 50% because I can 360 shoveit and kickflip. I have the basic elements of this trick down. Hopefully, I'll work hard and get this trick down. Give me some encouragement! =D

A New Trick I Learned

After 6 hours of hard skating with 3 buddies, I landed a new trick at the skatepark. The trick is called a 360 shove-it ) (shoveit?). Basically, the skater spins the boards 360 degrees to land exactly in the same position as before the trick.

Since my filmer is highly un-cooperative and un-motivated, I couldn't bring the clips I promised. But blame him. The footage was recorded but wasn't able to be uploaded. As a bonus, I'll bring a quick 180 tutorial.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A 180 is just jumping in the air with your board and doing a 180 spin.

So how do you do this amazing trick?

Easy. Set your front foot near the nose end bolts, and your back foot on the corner of the tail, closet to the direction you want to be spinning.

Wind up your body in the opposite direction.

Ollie, and slide your foot up and to either direction you want to go in (Kind of a diagonal movement) .Uncoil your body and jump with your board, in your favored direction.

You are in mid air, now what? Keep rotating those hips in the direction of your choice and your feet will follow.

Try to land it a full 180 degrees. If you need any help, just contact me, I'll be happy to help.

Thanks for reading guys!

Goodies

Hey again,

Tomorrow's gonna be fun. Going to the skatepark with 3 friends. Expect some footage of our local park. I'm not the greatest at vert (ramps and stuff), I can do a few tricks here and there.

Trick tips are gonna be going up this Sunday. (Hopefully!)

Just wanted to give you another update. My filmer is slightly uncooperative at the moment, =)

Take Everything One Step At A Time

This topic may seem a little sidetracked but I'll try to relate it to skateboarding.

This week, I had 3 tests in English Honors, Bio, and Alg 2 Honors. So its been pretty hectic.

My friend came over yesterday and I wasn't even allowed to go out and skate cause of all this school related stuff.

My point is, you can accomplish a lot more than you think possible by just focusing on doing it.

When skating, you may want to try to land a trick but just can't get it. Alway remember to try your best, and fight off the exhaustion and fatigue that comes with hard work and the feeling of landing the trick.

Thanks for reading guys, I appreciate it.

Rambling

Hey guys, I just got back from the gym with my friends and I'm about to go out skating. If my friend isn't stupid, maybe he'll have gotten the equipment I need to upload the videos. I'll keep you all posted.

But for now, what would you guys prefer, video or text tutorials? Let me know.

Gonna go hit up the skatepark this weekend, so I'll have some footage of that.

Bye!

Feedback and Kickflip Video

Hey guys, I appreciate the feedback I got.

Most of you wanted video tutorials. I'll talk to my friend tonight, he's a Filmer.

Next trick is going to be maybe a kickflip tutorial, or a 180 tutorial.

By the way, here's a video of me, slightly more recent, doing a kickflip. Enjoy!

How to Ollie

Now that you have learned how to ride, turn, and brake, you will want to learn how to llie.

The Ollie is the first trick you want to learn when beginning skateboarding. It is defined as a simple jump with your skateboard. You pop into the air with your skateboard.

Your foot placement is key for a good ollie. Keep you front foot right behind the front "bolts", or screws attaching your trucks to the deck. Your back foot should be on the tail.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
How To Do The Ollie

Crouch down while bending your knees, but don't overdo it.
Spring up while simultaneously popping your back foot against the ground, causing the tail to smack the ground and the nose (front of board) to pop into the air.

If you've done this correctly, you board will be nearly vertical, but airborne. To fix this, slide you front foot closer towards the nose. NOTE: This is a mandatory step!!!

This will even your board out in the air.

Now land gracefully and roll away. You just did your first ollie!

The First Fundamental Steps

Stance: There are 2 choices. Regular and goofy.
Regular- Left foot forward, push off the ground with right foot.
Goofy- Right foot forward, push off the ground with left foot.

How do I know what stance I am?

Step on a skateboard and determine which stance is more comfortable for YOU.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Riding

Next, you want to learn how to ride. Place your front foot in between the nose and center of the board and place your back foot on the ground. Push behind you with your back foot and step back onto the skateboard. In order to turn, you can lean forward and back, relative to the direction your torso is facing.

Can't lean to either side? Try to loosen your trucks. (See previous entry for definition on trucks). This will give them more wiggle room and a better ability to lean. You can loosen them with a skate tool. Just Google it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Braking- There are 2 main ways of braking.

Scraping your tail, or braking with your skate shoe.
Scraping your tail on the ground by leaning gently backwards while riding causes friction against the ground, causing you to slow down and stop. This also lowers the tail (opposite of nose, the nose is the beginning of the board) of the skateboard
This is not recommended as it wears away at the "tail" of your skateboard.

Braking with your shoe is usually more effective, looks cooler, and is more cost efficient.
Since skate shoes are more durable than a wooden deck, they will not have to be replaced as often.
To brake, you step your back foot off the board and let it scrape against the ground.

Again, this causes friction, slowing you down.

Thanks for reading, if you liked this, put some feedback in the comments.

Trick Tips?

I want to start a new trick tip series, teaching others how to do certain tricks.

Feedback is accepted.

Back to Basics

Skateboarding is a sport where the skater rides on a wooden "deck" with wheels attached to "trucks". Inside these wheels, are bearings which make the wheel spin. To top it all off, is grip tape on the surface of the deck. This provides traction to help the skater maintain control of the board. More for next time!

Sports

Sports such as skateboarding, basketball, football and baseball can be fun activities as well as great exercise. These activities act as a bonding experience between the players of both teams. These team skills develop trust, motivation, and social skills; relative to daily life.
